The Okuma Vashon fly reel is Okuma's mid arbor reel for fly fishing.  This fly reel offers fast line retrieval with the great feel of single action.  What's nice about the mid arbor reels is that they are a little lighter and more compact, which makes it a versatile reel to include in everyone's fly fishing tackle.  It offers a smooth and silky feel with the roller bearing.  The roller bearing allows the drag to be placed in one direction.  The spool frame and reel frame are all made out of aluminum, which adds to a lighter weight design.

As far as the drag goes, the Okuma Vashon offers a large disc drag for a powerful drag.  It's great, because when you engage the drag, you will most likely feel little to no resistance.  A lot of this has to do with the oversized disc drag.  The discs are stainless steel so, they are very strong and durable.  Because of their strength, they will have little to no flexing when reeling in larger fish.  The drag is controlled by the roller bearing so you will have a very quick retrieval, even with larger fish.

There are a lot of positive reviews out there for the Okuma Vashon.  A lot of fly fisherman have made regular use of the fly reel and have pulled in bass, pike, and even large 20 lb salmon. The drag system on the Okuma Vashon is very responsive and helps bring in large fish.  The drag helps tire the larger fish out and helps end the fight before the fisherman becomes too tired to carry on.  The frame is very durable so that it doesn't flex when pulling in larger fish.  Actually, the frame design is one of the highlights.  Especially, if you plan on pulling in 15 to 20 lb fish.  It only adds to the smooth feel and action.

The Okuma Vashon fly reel does not only function well, but it has a nice look to it.   You can also pack a lot of fishing line into the spool, which is a nice feature.  You might be able to get 150 yards or so of line in a spool. The overall look and feel of the Okuma Vashon are great.  It's very lightweight, while having a rigid frame, yet has a smooth action.
